The best ways to store leftover food in the refrigerator

Usually, some people prepare large quantities of food, but we are confused about the best way to store the leftovers in the refrigerator.

According to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, we offer you 4 different tips for safe and proper handling of leftover cooked foods.

1- Do not leave food outside the refrigerator:

Keeping food outside the refrigerator at high temperatures leads to the growth of bacteria and thus rapid spoilage. To avoid this matter, food should not be left outside the refrigerator for more than half an hour.

That is, food must be discarded if it is left at room temperature for more than two hours, or an hour if the temperature is more than 32 degrees Celsius.

2- Divide large quantities of food into more than one container for storage:

Not only does this provide more space in the refrigerator, but this also keeps the food edible for a longer period than if the entire quantity was placed in one container because this ensures that the cold reaches all parts of the food and thus ensures its preservation.

3- Putting food in containers with lids:

Covering foods maintains their moisture and thus keeps them fresh and edible. In addition, it prevents the spread of odors in the refrigerator and keeps it clean.

4- Meat and chicken segmentation:

It is necessary to cut meat and poultry into small parts, wrap them, and place them in closed plastic bags suitable for food use or in special containers. This method keeps the meat fresh and edible for a long time.

By following these steps you will ensure your safety and maintain the quality of your food when stored in the appropriate environment for the appropriate period of time.
